Jagdamba Motors, the authorized distributor of Proton vehicles in Nepal, is gearing up to expand its electric vehicle (EV) lineup. The company has confirmed that its second battery-powered offering, the Proton e.MAS 5, will officially go on sale in the Nepalese market by mid-July (Asar 2083).

According to company sources, the first shipment of the electric hatchback is already en route.

“The new Proton hatchback is already on its way to Nepal and is expected to arrive within a few days. We are on track for an official launch by the second week of July,” a company official told reporters.

Originally debuted in Malaysia last October, the e.MAS 5 is a rebadged version of the Geely Jingyuan, an EV manufactured by the Chinese automotive giant Geely.

Dimensions and Styling

The e.MAS 5 is a sub-compact electric hatchback that strikes a balance between urban maneuverability and interior space. Its dimensions stand at:

Charging Capabilities

The electric hatchback supports standard 3.3 kW AC charging for overnight or home top-ups. For fast charging on highways, it is compatible with up to 80 kW DC fast chargers. The company claims the e.MAS 5 can juice up from 30% to 80% in just 21 minutes using a DC fast charger.

Tech-Forward Cabin and Premium Features

The interior of the Proton e.MAS 5 boasts a futuristic aesthetic packed with modern creature comforts. Key cabin highlights include:

  • Displays: A standard 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster paired with either a 10.1-inch or a larger 14.6-inch central infotainment screen, depending on the variant.
  • Connectivity & Convenience: Seamless “HiCar” smartphone connectivity, a high-speed 50W wireless phone charger, and keyless entry.
  • Aesthetics: A customizable 256-color ambient lighting system and a multi-functional steering wheel.

Advanced Safety Suite

Proton has not compromised on safety, equipping the e.MAS 5 with a robust safety kit. The hatchback comes loaded with 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera system, and an advanced ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) suite to ensure top-notch safety on Nepalese roads.

With its impending launch, the Proton e.MAS 5 is set to heat up the competitive budget-to-mid-range EV hatchback segment in Nepal. Price announcements and official booking details are expected to be revealed closer to the launch date.
