Nissan Leaf Reimagined as Crossover SUV with 500km Range

Japanese automotive giant Nissan has unveiled the third-generation model of its iconic electric vehicle, the Nissan Leaf, now redesigned as a crossover SUV. The launch took place on Tuesday, marking a bold new chapter in the legacy of one of the world’s first mainstream EVs, originally introduced in 2010.

With a 15-year history, the Nissan Leaf has been a gamechanger for electric mobility. At a time when EVs struggled to gain consumer trust, the Leaf carved out its identity as a pioneer — and remains one of Nissan’s most successful models to date.

The new-generation Leaf, presented as a 2026 model, brings significant changes, starting with its design and battery capacity. It now features a 75kWh battery pack, which is 25% larger than its predecessor. Nissan claims this new battery will deliver over 500 kilometers of range on a single charge.

While the new Leaf is slightly shorter than the previous model, it is wider. The updated Leaf measures 4,404mm in length, which is 76mm shorter, but its width has increased by 25mm, enhancing its stance as a sportier, more robust SUV.

Inside, the crossover Leaf boasts a dual-screen setup, including a 14.3-inch infotainment system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Nissan has also equipped it with a dimming panoramic roof and a 64-color ambient lighting system, offering a premium in-cabin experience.

The company has yet to disclose the official pricing for the third-generation Leaf. However, it continues to be a global success with over 700,000 units sold worldwide. In Nepal, the Leaf was first introduced in 2021 and is still seen on the roads today.
