BYD is set to expand its lineup in Nepal with the upcoming launch of two new models — the Atto 2 compact SUV and the Seagull electric hatchback. This comes just days after the brand kicked off sales of the Sealion 7 SUV in the country.
According to Cimex Inc., the authorized distributor of BYD vehicles in Nepal, both models have already left China and are en route to Nepal. The company has positioned these models as “mass-market” electric vehicles, aimed at making EV ownership more accessible.
Atto 2 — the next EV bestseller?
The Atto 2 is expected to sit between the Dolphin hatchback and the more premium Atto 3 SUV, both in terms of pricing and features. Market insiders suggest it will share design cues with the Atto 3 but will come in a slightly smaller package.
Given that the Atto 2 is already being sold at a similar price point as the Dolphin in other right-hand-drive markets, it’s likely to arrive in Nepal with aggressive pricing — positioning it as a strong contender in the compact EV segment.
Seagull hatchback — affordable yet futuristic
The BYD Seagull has gained global attention as a budget-friendly electric hatchback. It’s designed for families looking for a practical urban EV, and in Nepal, it’s expected to directly compete with models like the Tata Tiago EV and the Kaiyi e-Qute 04.
Despite its entry-level positioning, the Seagull brings modern design and impressive tech for the segment — making it a compelling option for first-time EV buyers.
Rivals in Nepal’s EV market
- The Atto 2 will likely go head-to-head with models like the MG S5 EV, Kaiyi X3 Pro, Nammi-06 and Tata Nexon EV.
- The Seagull will enter the competitive small hatchback EV segment and target budget-conscious urban users.
With design language inspired by the successful Atto 3, but with a more compact form factor, the Atto 2 could become BYD’s next big hit in Nepal — especially if the price undercuts its competitors.
