The highly anticipated Kia EV5, a next-generation electric SUV manufactured in China, has officially arrived in Nepal. This marks Kia’s newest push into the electric mobility space with a mid-size crossover that blends futuristic design, technology, and performance.
According to Continental Trading, the authorized distributor of Kia Motors in Nepal, the demo unit of the Kia EV5 has reached the Birgunj customs yard and is currently undergoing clearance procedures.
Speaking to the media, Director Ashish Paudel confirmed that the vehicle is being prepared for its public debut at the NADA Nepal Mobility Expo 2025, set to begin on Shrawan 21 (early August).
A New Era for Kia EVs
The EV5 is part of Kia’s expanding EV lineup, following the successful global launches of the EV6 and EV9. It is also Kia’s first EV model produced in China for international export, positioning it as a strategic product for emerging EV markets like Nepal.
Size and Dimensions
Built using Kia’s Opposites United design philosophy, the EV5 features bold styling and muscular proportions. Its key dimensions include:
- Length: 4,615 mm
- Width: 1,875 mm
- Height: 1,715 mm
- Wheelbase: 2,750 mm
These figures put the EV5 in direct competition with popular models like the BYD Atto 3, Leapmotor C10, and Proton eMas 7 in the Nepali market.
Performance and Battery Options
The demo unit currently in Nepal is equipped with a 160 kW motor. Internationally, the EV5 offers two battery options:
- A 60.3 kWh NMC battery
- A 64.2 kWh LFP Blade battery (sourced from BYD)
For the Nepali market, the production variant is expected to feature a 99 kW motor, optimized for affordability and efficiency without compromising on range.
Tech-Forward Cabin
Kia has loaded the EV5 with advanced technology and comfort features. Highlights include:
- Dual 12.3-inch digital displays (instrument cluster and infotainment)
- An additional 5-inch climate control touchscreen
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Paddle shifters
- Powered front seats (6-way driver, 4-way passenger)
- Heated and ventilated front seats
- Dual-zone climate control
- V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) power outlet
- 19-inch alloy wheels
Kia also emphasizes sustainability in the cabin, using recycled plastics and plant-based leather, making the EV5 a truly eco-conscious SUV.
Safety First
Safety is another area where the EV5 excels. The SUV includes:
- 7 airbags
- Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
- Blind-spot Assist
- Lane Keep Assist
- Rear Occupant Alert
- Dynamic rear-view camera with guiding lines
These features make it one of the most well-equipped EVs in its class in terms of driver and passenger protection.
Launch and Pricing Expectations
While Continental Trading has yet to reveal the official price for the Nepali market, early indicators suggest that the Kia EV5 will be competitively priced. It is expected to fall within a range that rivals segment leaders in Nepal’s electric SUV category.
With bold design, smart features, and strong safety credentials, the Kia EV5 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting electric vehicle launches of the year. Stay tuned for its public debut at the NADA Mobility Expo 2025.
