The Malaysian car company Proton has introduced its first electric SUV, the e-Mas 7, in Nepal. The official launch event took place in Kathmandu on Friday.
Jagdamba Motors, the authorized distributor of Proton vehicles in Nepal, organized the event. The Malaysian Ambassador to Nepal, Mohamad Firdous Azman, unveiled the new car. The e-Mas 7 comes in two variants: Prime and Premium.
The starting price of the e-Mas 7 is 56.99 lakh NPR. It is available in six different colors. The car is built on Proton’s Global Modular Architecture platform and features a 12-in-1 Intelligent Electric Propulsion System. It has a Cell-to-Body battery structure and a new-generation AEGS Short-Blade battery.
For safety, the e-Mas 7 has a Level 2 ADAS system and a 360-degree view camera. It has received a 5-star safety rating from ASEAN NCAP. The SUV generates 160 kW power and 320 Nm torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. It takes 35 meters to come to a complete stop from 100 km/h.
The Prime variant has a 49.52 kWh battery, providing a range of 345 km and the price is 56.99 lakhs. The Premium variant has a 60.22 kWh battery, offering a range of 410 km and the price is 67.99 lakhs. With DC fast charging, the battery can charge from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes. A 10-minute charge can provide a range of 135 km.
Inside, the SUV has ventilated seats and spacious legroom. It includes 33 storage compartments, 256-color ambient lighting, and a 15.4-inch touchscreen display with 2.5K resolution.
Akhil Gupta, Executive Director of Jagdamba Motors, expressed his excitement about launching Proton’s first electric SUV in Nepal. He emphasized that the vehicle aligns with Nepal’s sustainable transport goals by offering high performance and eco-friendly features.
Jagdamba Motors also announced plans to expand its dealership network and strengthen after-sales service across Nepal in the next financial year. Additionally, Proton plans to invest in developing EV charging stations in the country.
The launch event was attended by Proton CEO Dr. Li Chunrong, ProNet CEO Zhang Kai, and Director Lim Meng Thong, among others.
