The Nepali automotive market has welcomed a new contender in the electric vehicle segment with the official launch of the MAXUS eTerron 9 electric pickup truck. Himalayan Motors, the authorized distributor for Maxus vehicles in Nepal, unveiled the robust electric pickup at a special event held in Manang on Sunday.
The MAXUS eTerron 9 is available in two distinct variants: Luxury and Premium, with the company announcing a starting price of NPR 99,99,000.
Maxus highlights that the eTerron 9 boasts one of the largest battery packs in its segment. This substantial battery provides a WLTP certified range of up to 430 kilometers on a single full charge. The NEDC range is even more impressive, quoted at 560 kilometers.
Charging the eTerron 9 is versatile. Using an 11 kW AC charger, the battery can be fully replenished in approximately 12 hours. For faster charging, the pickup supports DC fast charging up to 115 kW. A notable convenience is the “Vehicle to Load” (V2L) feature, available for both the exterior and interior of the EV.
In terms of dimensions, the MAXUS eTerron 9 measures 5500mm in length, 1997mm in width, and 1874mm in height. It features a long wheelbase of 3300mm and a generous ground clearance of 230mm. The company claims its approach, departure, and ramp-over angles of 29, 25, and 20 degrees respectively, make it well-suited for Nepal’s diverse and challenging road conditions. Furthermore, it is capable of wading through water up to 550mm deep.
Maxus states the off-road pickup has a payload capacity of up to 620 kg and an impressive towing capacity of up to 3500 kg. The eTerron 9 comes with a four-wheel-drive system, powered by dual motors – a 125 kW motor at the front and a 200 kW motor at the rear, delivering a combined power output of 315 kW.
The luxury variant of the pickup is generously equipped with features such as automatic air conditioning, a heated steering wheel, electrically adjustable front seats, leatherette seat covers, and heated and ventilated front and rear seats. Adding to the premium feel are a driver’s seat with memory and massage functions, a panoramic sunroof, and automatic headlights and wipers.
Safety has been a key focus, with the eTerron 9 earning a 5-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests. It comes packed with advanced safety features including a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Assist (BSA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), ESP, EBA, an All-Terrain Mode, 7 airbags, and an auto-hold function.
Himalayan Motors is offering a comprehensive warranty package for the MAXUS eTerron 9 in the Nepali market: 5 years or 160,000 kilometers on the vehicle, and 8 years or 200,000 kilometers on the high-voltage battery.
