JY Air EV Sedan Set to Launch in Nepal

The JY Air electric sedan, developed by JuneYao Automobile, is gearing up for its Nepal debut. Following its initial launch in Thailand, this futuristic EV is making its way to the Himalayan nation, aiming to carve out a place in Nepal’s growing electric vehicle market. Expected to be priced at NPR 59 lakhs, the JY Air will face intense competition from well-established brands offering similar features at competitive price points.

JY Air was born from JuneYao Airlines’ ambition to expand into the EV sector, acquiring the assets of former Chinese EV maker Yudo Auto in 2022. The vehicle was initially expected to debut in China, but the company took a global-first approach, launching in international markets like Thailand and now Nepal.

Premium Aero-Inspired Design

Taking inspiration from aviation aesthetics, JY Air integrates sleek aerodynamics and aviation-grade safety into its design. Its “ONE BOX” philosophy brings a futuristic minimalist appeal, with smooth window lines evoking a horizon at dawn. Adding to its unique appeal are ultra-thin 15mm lens headlights, featuring 240 LEDs reminiscent of aircraft wing lighting.

Luxury Cabin with Smart Features

The JY Air’s interior offers a first-class travel experience, blending high-quality materials with a spacious, well-thought-out layout. The centerpiece is the Sunflower Central Touchscreen, an intuitive, rotatable display powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 chip. Running on Crystal OS with a 3D cockpit system, the sedan also supports L2+ driving assist for a safer and smarter drive. Other premium features include:

  • Two-spoke steering wheel
  • Dual wireless charging pads
  • Expansive 2-square-meter panoramic sunroof
  • Five comfortable seats with an impressive 78% space utilization rate
  • 175 mm Ground Clearance
  • 6 Airbags
  • 8 Speaker

The JY Air is built on an intelligent EV platform with a focus on performance, range, and safety. It features a 99 kW (201 hp) single rear-mounted electric motor delivering 250 Nm torque. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 170 km/h.

Two battery variants are available, both sourced from CATL, the world’s largest EV battery manufacturer:

  • Lite51 kWh LFP battery – Offers 430 km (NEDC) range, supports 70 kW DC fast charging and 17 inch wheel
  • Ultra64 kWh LFP battery – Extends the range to 530 km NEDC (430 WLTP), supports 138 kW fast charging and 19 inch wheel

With a price tag of NPR 59 lakhs, the JY Air enters a highly competitive segment in Nepal. It will go up against strong contenders like the BYD Atto 3, Upcomin Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, MG S5, Omoda and more, all of which are already well-established in the local market. To stand out, JY Air is banking on its sleek design, premium interior, and advanced safety features.
