Electric vehicles from Dongfeng Motor Corporation sold in Nepal will now be available with an extended warranty of up to 11 years or 2,50,000 kilometers for the battery and motor.
The extended warranty program has been introduced by MAW Vriddhi, the official distributor of Dongfeng passenger vehicles in Nepal, in partnership with Shikhar Insurance Company. The initiative aims to provide additional long-term protection for EV owners and increase customer confidence in electric mobility.
Currently, MAW Vriddhi sells two electric models from Dongfeng in the Nepali market: Dongfeng Nammi Box and Dongfeng Nammi Vigo.
Two Layers of Warranty Protection
The program offers two levels of warranty coverage for the battery and motor.
The standard manufacturer warranty, which comes with the vehicle at no additional cost, covers the battery and motor for 8 years or 2,00,000 kilometers.
Customers who want longer protection can opt for the premium extended warranty, which extends the coverage to 11 years or 2,50,000 kilometers. This extended coverage is available as a paid program and is managed through Shikhar Insurance.
Mandatory Insurance Requirement
To keep the extended warranty valid, customers must maintain continuous comprehensive motor insurance with Shikhar Insurance for the entire warranty period.
The program also requires customers to follow several key conditions, including:
- Servicing the vehicle only at authorized service centers
- Following the recommended maintenance schedule
- Using genuine or approved parts
- Maintaining proper service and compliance records
If the vehicle’s insurance is transferred to another insurance company during the warranty period, the extended warranty coverage will be automatically terminated.
Existing Owners Can Also Enroll
Owners of 2024 model-year Dongfeng Nammi vehicles may also enroll in the extended warranty program. However, if the vehicle is currently insured with another insurer, it must first switch to Shikhar Insurance’s comprehensive motor policy.
In such cases, Shikhar Insurance may charge additional premium for past coverage years before activating the extended warranty.
What the Warranty Does Not Cover
The extended warranty covers only manufacturing or quality defects and excludes damages caused by accidents, fire, external forces, improper charging, unauthorized repairs, or modifications.
It also does not cover wear-and-tear items such as brake pads, wiper blades, filters, bulbs, fluids, and vehicle glass, along with indirect costs such as accommodation expenses or business losses.
Strengthening EV Confidence
With the Nepali EV market growing rapidly, long-term battery warranty programs are becoming an important factor for buyers. By offering coverage of up to 11 years for battery and motor components, MAW Vriddhi aims to strengthen trust in Dongfeng’s electric vehicles and support wider EV adoption in Nepal.
Customers interested in the extended warranty program can contact MAW Vriddhi or visit authorized Dongfeng showrooms for eligibility checks and application details.
