Nio Brand Coming to Nepal, Paramount Motors Becomes Official Dealer

A Chinese startup has chosen Paramount Motors as the official dealer of Nio in Nepal. Many business groups in Nepal tried to bring the brand, but Paramount Motors won the deal.

Nio is China’s first company to use battery-swapping technology in electric vehicles. It has built thousands of battery-swapping stations in China. The company has also introduced a new sub-brand called Firefly for small electric cars.

Nio launched the Firefly brand to sell cars outside China. However, due to high taxes on Chinese cars in Europe, the company is now focusing on Asian markets, including Nepal.

The Firefly brand is expected to launch in Nepal by November. The first model will be a right-hand drive electric hatchback. However, Paramount Motors has not confirmed whether it will bring battery-swapping technology to Nepal.

  • Electric motor: 105 kW power
  • Battery: LFP battery from Sunwoda
  • Battery swapping technology: Available
  • Dimensions:
    • Length: 4,003 mm
    • Width: 1,781 mm
    • Height: 1,557 mm
    • Wheelbase: 2,615 mm
  • Wheels: 18-inch
  • Turning radius: 4.7 meters

The Firefly hatchback is designed to compete with the Mini Cooper in the international market. It features a unique front and rear design with three circular lights.

The car’s body structure is made of 83.4% high-strength steel for extra safety. It also includes ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) and nine airbags.

The Firefly’s modern design was created by Chris Thomason, who has previously worked with BMW and Ford. With advanced technology, safety, and battery-swapping capability, Firefly is expected to be a strong player in Nepal’s EV market.
