The much-awaited SUV brings back a classic name, launching with a powerful 1.5L turbo-petrol engine, Level 2 ADAS, and a futuristic triple-screen dashboard.
Tata Motors has officially taken the wraps off the production-spec version of its iconic and much-hyped Tata Sierra SUV in India. Blending nostalgic 1990s design cues with a hyper-modern and tech-packed interior, the Sierra is set to make a significant impact on the SUV market.
The new Sierra is scheduled to go on sale in India starting November 25. While official bookings are set to open, reports indicate that some dealers have already begun taking unofficial, dealer-level pre-bookings to manage the high initial interest.
Alongside the petrol and diesel versions, Tata has also confirmed that an EV variant of the Sierra will be launched soon after.
Design: Modern Muscle Meets Classic Lines
The new Sierra retains the classic, upright, and boxy silhouette of the original model but reinterprets it for the modern era.
- Exterior: The front features a striking gloss-black panel that seamlessly connects the LED headlights and DRLs, with bold “Sierra” lettering. Its muscular stance is complemented by large 19-inch alloy wheels, flush door handles, and cornering fog lights. The rear is dominated by a sleek, connected LED taillight bar.
- Interior: Inside, the Sierra features what is arguably Tata’s most technologically advanced cabin to date. The dashboard is dominated by a triple-screen setup, including two 12.3-inch screens and one 10.25-inch screen for infotainment and the driver’s display.
- Premium Comfort: The cabin, finished in a black-and-grey theme, feels airy thanks to a massive panoramic sunroof. Other premium features include a four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, a premium audio system, and ambient lighting.
Under the Hood: A Trio of Engine Options
Tata is offering the Sierra with three powerful and efficient engine choices to cater to different buyers:
- 1.5L Turbo-Petrol: A new 1.5-liter direct-injection turbo-petrol engine that produces a powerful 170 hp and 280 Nm of torque. This engine will be available with both a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed automatic transmission.
- 1.5L Diesel: The SUV also gets a 1.5-liter diesel engine, producing 118 hp and 260 Nm of torque, the same trusted unit found in the Nexon and Curvv.
- 1.5L NA Petrol: According to reports, a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated petrol engine will also be offered, likely at a more accessible price point.
Packed with Advanced Safety
The Sierra is set to be one of the safest vehicles in its class, loaded with modern safety technology. The highlight is the inclusion of Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems), which includes features like:
- Automatic Emergency Braking
- Lane Keep Assist
- Lane Departure Alert
- Cruise Control
In addition to ADAS, the SUV comes equipped with 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).

What This Means for Nepal
While the November 25 launch is specific to the Indian market, the official unveiling of the Tata Sierra is major news for Nepali automotive enthusiasts. Given Tata’s strong market presence in Nepal and the surging demand for feature-rich, premium SUVs, the Sierra is poised to be a highly anticipated model.
There is no official word on a Nepal launch date yet, but it is expected to be a key market for the new SUV following its rollout in India. When it arrives, the Sierra’s combination of iconic design, powerful engines, and cutting-edge technology will make it a formidable contender in Nepal’s competitive SUV segment.
