Dongfeng has officially released the 2026 Nammi 01 EV, a refreshed compact electric hatchback, in the Chinese market. The updated model is strategically positioned to intensify competition in the entry-level compact EV segment, particularly against rivals like the BYD Seagull and Geely Geome Xingyuan.
Aggressive Pricing Strategy in China, Major Implications for Nepal
The most notable change is a significant price reduction, with the 2026 Nammi 01 EV launching at a price up to $2,000 USD cheaper than its predecessor. Official prices for the eight variants start from 59,800 yuan ($8,400 USD), with a limited-time promotional price beginning at an even lower 58,800 yuan ($8,250 USD).
This aggressive pricing is expected to ripple across export markets, including Nepal. The price cut comes at a time when the Nammi 01 has already established itself as a major player in the Nepali market.
Nepalese EV Success Story: Over 1,000 Units Sold
The Nammi 01 has achieved significant success in Nepal, with the authorised distributor, MAW Vriddhi, marking a milestone of over 1,000 units imported into the country in less than a year since its launch. This strong sales performance positions it as one of the fastest-selling and most successful electric hatchbacks in the domestic market, surpassing competitors like the BYD Dolphin in recent monthly sales.
However, the current top variant of the Nammi 01 EV in Nepal is priced at NPR 33,99,000, which is higher than its direct competitor, the BYD Atto One (Seagull), priced at NPR 32,99,000. The substantial price drop for the new model in China could signal a future readjustment that would make the already popular Nammi 01 even more competitive on price in Nepal.

Design and Exterior Updates
The 2026 model maintains its rounded, urban-friendly dimensions (4,020 mm L × 1,810 mm W × 1,570 mm H, with a 2,663 mm wheelbase). New colour customisation is a key highlight, including a fresh “Spirit Green” two-tone paint scheme (green body with a white roof), in addition to existing options like Fantasy Purple/White, Golden Red/White, and Pink/White.
Exterior features are retained and refined:
- Split headlamps and a through-type LED daytime running light.
- Higher trims now feature LED headlights with automatic high/low beam.
- The model also continues to offer frameless doors, hidden flush-type door handles, and 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels on premium variants.
Upgraded Interior and Technology
Inside, the minimalist cabin is enhanced with a new green interior theme option. The central display receives a key upgrade, with the 12.8-inch screen now featuring a higher 1920×1080 resolution.
Key interior features include:
- A 5-inch digital instrument cluster.
- An upgraded infotainment system with 8 GB of memory, supporting AI-based voice control and dual-zone voice wake-up.
- Higher trims add premium features like leather seats, ventilated and heated front seats, a 6-way electric driver’s seat with memory, and a 50W wireless phone charger.
- Practicality is improved with rear seats that fold fully flat, expanding the boot capacity from 326 litres to an impressive 945 litres.
Performance and Safety
All variants are powered by a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 70 kW (94 hp) and 160 Nm of torque.
Two battery options are available, offering competitive range figures (CLTC):
- 31.45 kWh battery: 330 km range
- 42.3 kWh battery: 430 km range
The 2026 Nammi 01 EV also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power output. Driver assistance and safety features are comprehensive, including a 540° panoramic camera system, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Integrated Cruise Assist (ICA), and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB).
With its proven popularity in Nepal, these technological updates and a much more attractive price point make the 2026 Dongfeng Nammi 01 a compelling and potent new contender in the compact electric vehicle market.
