Jaecoo J5 Electric SUV Lands in Nepal Ahead of NAIMA Mobility Expo Launch

OMODA/Jaecoo, the new energy vehicle brand under China’s Chery Automobile Group, has officially brought its latest electric SUV — the Jaecoo J5 — to Nepal. The vehicle has been imported by APG Automobiles, the authorized distributor for OMODA/Jaecoo in Nepal, with plans to debut it at the upcoming NAIMA Mobility Expo.

The Jaecoo J5 has been registered with a maximum retail price (MRP) of NPR 60.99 lakhs for customs clearance purposes — a mandatory step before a vehicle enters the Nepali market. However, the expected market price is estimated to be slightly lower, around NPR 55 lakhs, depending on variant and final configuration.

One of the reasons the price appears higher than expected is its high-output 155 kW (208 hp) electric motor. Had the vehicle been equipped with a smaller 100 kW or sub-100 kW motor, the final price would likely have been closer to the earlier estimates.

Battery, Range, and Performance

The Jaecoo J5 is powered by a 60.9 kWh LFP battery, expected to deliver a single-charge range of approximately 400 km in real-world conditions. This makes it a practical choice for Nepali EV buyers looking for longer range and reliability.

The J5 stands out with a smart and muscular exterior design. Dimension-wise, the SUV measures:

  • Length: 4380 mm
  • Width: 1860 mm
  • Height: 1650 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2620 mm

Inside, the J5 features a minimalist dashboard, highlighted by a 13.2-inch vertical touchscreen with physical buttons seamlessly integrated. The dual-tone leather seats add to the premium feel of the cabin. A 1.45 square meter panoramic sunroof enhances the spacious and airy ambiance.

The Jaecoo J5 is also equipped with independent suspension for better ride quality, especially on Nepal’s varied road conditions.

Comfort, Tech & Safety

Additional premium features include:

  • Multi-color ambient lighting
  • Double-glazed soundproof glass
  • Wireless charging
  • Power-adjustable front seats
  • Sony 8-speaker sound system with in-car microphone
  • 480L boot space (expandable to 1180L with rear seats folded)
  • Full-size spare tire

On the safety front, the J5 comes with Level 2 ADAS features including:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
  • Intelligent Climate Control
  • Remote control functionality
  • Over-the-air (OTA) software updates

Chery has reportedly tested the Jaecoo J5 over 20 lakh kilometers before bringing it to market, ensuring it’s built for real-world durability.

With the official unveiling scheduled during the NAIMA Mobility Expo, the Jaecoo J5 is expected to draw strong interest from premium EV buyers in Nepal. It’s the latest addition to Jaecoo’s growing portfolio, following the launch of the Jaecoo J7 and OMODA E5 in the country.
